What's For Dinner?

Monday, October 15, 2012

Yesterday it finally rained! It's been so long since it rained that I was actually GIDDY when I heard the rain hitting the window. The little things, people, the little things.

I've also found out that several people in my family consider fall to be their favorite season. I get it, it's a great season. But, I don't. With all of it's glories, it's got quite a bit of ick to it too. To each their own, right?

Even so, I've been up to quite a few fall things...Canning pickles, peanut butter cookie making, egg nog (yes, I'm already getting started) making, board game playing. I just need to get my camera out again so I can SHOW you some of these things.

This week we'll be talking about COOKING. This is probably my favorite part of home making. I love finding new recipes, grocery shopping, and cooking up a storm.

I realize that sometimes cooking can definitely turn into a chore. You don't know what to make, but you have to make something. The cabinets seems bare. Freezer food just sounds good.

Like most everything else, with some planning, cooking can remain fun.

So, let's talk about MEAL PLANNING.

Today's task is to: Find a meal planning system that works for you!

When you are looking for a system consider if you want to plan your meals out a month in advance, a week in advance, or even simply day by day.

*I tend to keep a bunch of basic things on hand and then have an idea of about 3 to 4 days worth of meals in my head. This doesn't work for everyone, but it works best for me right now.

*I also try to keep a journal of the things that I have cooked  each day. This way, if I ever get into a rut, I can look back through and get inspiration based on meals that I already know we enjoy.
